about

"THE BASEMENT LP" WAS NOMINATED FOR "BEST HIP HOP ALBUM" BY THE SAN DIEGO MUSIC FOUNDATION IN 2014!!!!

Hypebomb Records presents: The Basement LP

"The Basement LP from Far From Ya Average is their third album and doesn't disappoint with lyrical skill and a diverse selection of beats capturing a throw back, classic vibe. From the first few seconds of the intro you can tell that this is going to be a fun album by poking fun at the typical club scene requests over a Slick Rick track. "Get Up" offers a strong start with overdriven guitar samples and distorted vocals, it's a powerful track that builds excitement for the rest of the album. With guest lyricists sprinkled throughout, a standout for me is Madd Joker on "Deadly", a beat by Edgar IsReal. The diversity of vocal styles play off of each other nicely, enhancing the melodic samples of the instrumental. Several interludes from SDMA winner Mr. Ridley offer humorous cynical commentary on the state of hip hop stereotypes such as "swag rappers" in the form of "Deep Thoughts". "Molecules and Music", orchestrated by Inform, is a mellow summer time beat full of upward thinking lyrics and a creative use of turntable rewinds, it is clear to see why this is the premier single. With tracks like "Look of love" produced by Bonita Basics demonstrating more commercial appeal similar older tracks from the Game to "My Future Ex" capturing a downtempo vibe this album has the ability to appeal to numerous demographics. Nearing the end, what album would be complete without a posse track entitled "No Hooks", Much like something one would find at a live show. The Basement LP is reminiscent of the Los Angeles underground scene towards the later 90's through its use melodic samples and pitched up vocals, grabbing lyrical inspiration from early 90s east coast hip hop. Far From Ya Average is a group that continues to gain momentum and leaves its audience craving the next release." - DJ PNutz host of the "Me, Myself & I" Radio show
